Transoranje-school for the deaf is located in Pretoria-west and caters for the education and wellbeing of approximately 206 learners with profound hearing loss. A young learner with severe hearing loss needs specialized education and support. The school takes in learners from as early as age three to assist in learning language and formal communication skills from specialized educators and therapists. Apart from Sign Language, lipreading and writing skills are also taught from an early age.

Specialised staff for optimal development
Special support and services are needed for learners with special educational needs to develop optimally. The staff at Transoranje-school are made up of a team of highly motivated occupational therapists, audiologists, speech therapists, psychologists, medical personnel and training staff. Because of the special needs of learners with deafness, there is a great need for a full staff compliment as the learner teacher ratio is 7:1 for optimal learning. The school follows the Gauteng Department of Education’s learning plans for primary and secondary education up to grade 12. This ensures that as many as possible learners acquire the conventional skills to be able to enter into the economic working environment. Normal school subjects such as languages, mathematics, accounting and commercial subjects, as well as practical subjects, such as woodwork and hospitalities studies are taught. The learning environment is adapted to be "deaf friendly".

Spiritual development
Religious study and the presentation of life skills are the corner stones of a balanced lifestyle and the development of learners. Learners are encouraged to develop strong moral and spiritual beliefs to enable them to be responsible, emphatic citizens of society.

Sport and culture
Learners take part in organized sports like rugby, netball, athletics, badminton, chess and swimming. The school also encourage participation in the school sign language choirs.
